This was a commission for ~ExplodingSnap that is long overdue. I tried to make it extra pretty because of that, but now I'm to the point where I'm just going to keep rendering until the focus is unclear and I think I need to stop. XD
So she originally asked for a picture of Featherwhisker and Sunfall doing something brotherly together, and I thought about it for a long time and even have a couple other unfinished drafts on my hard drive but eventually settled with this one. I always thought the relationship between a leader and their medicine cat would have to be super close, but how much more so would that be if they were brothers? Here they are journeying to the moonstone late in the afternoon after Pinestar announced his departure. I'll just write some narration:
Sunfall and his brother hurried in the face of the setting sun, knowing they had little time to reach the moonstones for his ceremony. "Wait up!" called Featherwhisker from behind. Sunfall paused on a rock on the windclan slope of fourtrees, his brother huffed up the rocks beside him. "You always were faster than me. The stones will still be there if we allow ourselves to breathe, we'll get there in time." he waited until the pain in his chest subsided and then Featherwhisker began to pad onward. this time, he took a couple steps before he realized Sunfall wasn't following. he looked back.
"What if-" Sunfall gasped the words, as if he still hadn't caught his breath, and his eyes filled with a different kind of pain. "What if I'm wrong? What if Pinestar's betrayal causes our ancestors to turn their backs on us? Featherwhisker, we're going to get to highstones and they won't be waiting. What am i going to tell the clan when-"
"Stop it."
Featherwhisker swallowed his own growing fears concerning their ancestors, and used his tail to lift his brothers eyes to his. "You were right this morning, Starclan will not turn us away. You are our leader. You come with Pinestar's blessing, and the hopes of all of thunderclan. have courage, it's what you do best. I believe in you, and they do too."
Sunfall didn't know whether his brother was talking about Thunderclan or Starclan, but somehow with Featherwhisker's words his self doubt subsided. He purred "I'm glad it's you with me and not Goosefeather. I wouldn't have it any other way."
